Calluses are hard patches of skin that form of the bottom of the foot on the bony areas such as the heel, ball of the foot, along side your foot or on your big toe.

These are caused through repeated friction, rubbing and pressure on the skin.

TREATMENT
Removal or reduction.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

Corns form due to repeated "pressing in" and pressure on the skin. The common cause is ill fitting shoes. A build up of hard thick skin builds up around the corn in an attempt to protect the site.

Corns tend to be small and round, these are most likely to be on top of the toe -

Hard Corn (Heloma Durum) where there is a bone pressure against the skin or

soft corns (Heloma Molle), sides and in-between the toes, whitish/grey, these are more rubbery in texture.

However they can appear on the sole of the feet, seed corns (Heloma Miliare).

TREATMENT

The corn is carefully removed (enucleated)

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

An Ingrown toenail is a common problem, this happens when the nail grows into the skin of the toe (usually the big toe) making it very painful. This can happen due to ill fitting shoes, trauma, such as banging your toe or if the nail has been cut incorrectly. Anyone can get an ingrown toenail, people who are a higher risk include adolescents, athletes and those who have diabetes.

An ingrown toenail can be swollen, it can look infected over the nail edge ie:

• Pus
• Pain
• Redness
• Swelling
• Toe feeling warm or hot.

TREATMENT

Part Removal of the side of the nail which is causing the pain.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

Toenails that grown thicker and change colour over a period of time indicate a fungal infection also known as Onychomycosis - Fungal nails are common and will not harm you however they can look unsightly. With regular nail reduction the toe/s will be more comfortable in footwear.

Nail reduction and anti fungal treatments used daily will help get the best results.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS

Verrucas are caused by the Human papilloma virus (HPV), it is contagious between direct contact through person to person.  Verrucas are found on the soles of the feet. The appearance resembles a small cauliflour type growth. Verrucas are harmless but can be painful/ uncomfortable to walk on.

TREATMENT ADVICE AND MANAGEMENT

Reduction of the verruca and an application of silver cream, to be used as advised by Practioner.

follow up treatments should be every 4 weeks.

Heels may become dry and cracked due to a number of factors such as, wearing unsuitable footwear, obesity etc. They may look very dry and the skin hard to the touch.

Reduction of the hard skin as well as using a specialised cream to soften the area.

FUNGAL NAIL

Nail Trim & File -

All over foot assessment and advice is much like a New Patient assessment. This doesnt include neurological and vascular tests.

There will be questions about your general health, what/if there are any medications being taken etc. There will then be a treatment plan put in place.
